Healthcare hottie turned creative digital storyteller…
Amer-Marie Woods (she/her) is a dynamic storyteller and creative force, blending her journey from healthcare professional to celebrated filmmaker, writer, and actress. Based in Atlanta and bi-coastal to Los Angeles, Amer is passionate about bringing forward authentic narratives that amplify the voices of marginalized communities, especially the healing stories that define Black womanhood—the dangers, joys, and triumphs that shape families across lifetimes.
Amer’s unique artistic foundation began in South Carolina, where she grew up as a company member in an all-Black ballet dance theater, training as a classical musician and visual artist. With a B.S. in Biology from Mercer University and training from the College of Pharmacy at UGA, she initially carved a path in healthcare, working as a Neurophysiologist. However, in 2019, she followed her lifelong love of the arts and returned to her roots in acting and filmmaking. Seeing the need for accessible resources in her community, she created a free improv gym for actors and founded the GO OFF! Actors, offering workshops and classes to foster talent.
Amer’s work behind the camera began as a Script Supervisor, Assistant Director, Location Manager, and Unit Production Manager, where her hands-on approach and versatile skills quickly established her as an invaluable collaborator. This led her to produce shorts like By The Lake, a raw exploration of addiction, and Her Pretty Vagina, a dark comedy addressing women’s silent battles with endometriosis and HPV. Most recently, she completed her first independent feature, Both Eyes Open, a psychological thriller capturing the resilience of a domestic violence survivor.
In her debut as a writer, her stage play TIA & MICK, performed at Atlanta’s Academy Theater, delves into the harrowing realities of Black maternal mortality, exploring a couple’s difficult choices amid life’s highest stakes. This piece and others continue Amer’s mission to spark conversations that challenge and connect. As an assistant director, producer, and performer, Amer thrives in collaborative environments that empower underrepresented voices—anchoring her as a passionate, community-driven storyteller poised to make a lasting impact in the world of film and media.
